The movie was enjoyable, could have been 30 min shorter, if you are expecting a horror movie you will be disapointed.

I went along thinking this movie was going to be a horror movie too. Not that I am particularly a horror movie fan. I heard two bad reviews for this movie and one good one in the days before I went but went anyway.
I found this movie good with some unexpected twists and turns which, although the movie tended to be paced a little slow, the tension and a sense of what was actually happening built gradually through the movie.
It was actually around 20 minutes shorter than I thought. The ending was a bit abrupt and a surprise. I expect there will possibly be a Shutter Island 2 in a few years.
Overall I would have to give this movie a 3.5 out of 5. Not a horror movie by any stretch but definitely a though provoking insight into mental illness and how it is and was treated and regarded in society.

we also went along thinking it was a horror but it wasn’t and we were not disappointed. It had a very ‘Hitchcock’ feel about it, dark and moody. It also had some great twists during the film, we thought the film would feel very long but in the end because the story was very good it just flew by.
I would give this film 4.5 out of 5.

My wife and I went to “Shutter Island” and by our getting to our seats a little after the movie started might have actually added to the intent of the movie. I was intent in trying to figure out what was happening and what would happen next. There is enough that is believable from Det. Daniels perspective that I really was thrown for a loop when the movie abruptly said good-bye. Then to add to my disorientation my wife and I drove through an unfamiliar neighborhood, leaving the theater at dusk. I would recommend this whole scenario to get the most out of this movie.
